Camp Casey III: Covington, LA Updates

Michael Moore has a new column on his site called Covington Updates. Covington, LA is where Cindy Sheehan and the anti-war vets from Camp Casey are located at the moment--and had brought in all of the donated supplies from Camp Casey II during Cindy's vigil near W's ranch in Texas.

Here's a painting of Smudge, the Camp Casey Cat. The painting was being auctioned on e-bay, then it was disallowed to be auctioned as the Department of Commerce intervened. Luckily, someone bought the painting anyway, and the proceeds are going for more supplies to hand out to Katrina survivors. I'm posting the VFP for Hurricane Relief on my blogroll in case anyone wants to look at the latest news--and if you care to join their bb.

Good peeps! Good luck Cindy as you keep on your trail to the Anti-war March in DC later this month.

  • I'm confused. Why would the department of Commerce intervene on an eBay auction? Was this a political move?(what a surprise) Or did it violate some obscure law? It seems kind of silly, it's just a cat and the money's going to charity, or is thanswer between the lines?

  • My sense is that it was a political move. The DOC wields a lot of power, such as shutting down companies for various reasons. They may have told E-bay this was a "national security" threat. I don't know the answer to that one; unlike John Roberts at the Judicial Hearings today, I don't mind speculating.
