Tribute to JT

I've loved James Taylor's music for over 35 years. Tonight on the PBS is a wonderful tribute to him and his music.

My favorite song related to JRE and the campaign of 2004 (and as both are North Carolinans): "Secret O' Life".

The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time
Any fool can do it
There ain't nothing to it
Nobody knows how we got to
The top of the hill
But since we're on our way down
We might as well enjoy the ride

The secret of love is in opening up your heart
It's okay to feel afraid
But don't let that stand in your way no
'Cause anyone knows that love is the only road
And since we're only here for a while yeah
Might as well show some style

Give us a smile now
Isn't it a lovely ride
Sliding down
And gliding down
Try not to try too hard
It's just a lovely ride

Now the thing about time is that time
Isn't really real
It's all on your point of view
How does it feel for you
Einstein said that he could never understand it all
Planets spinning through space
The smile upon your face

Welcome to the human race
Isn't that a lovely ride
Sliding down
Gliding down
Try not to try too hard
It's just a lovely ride
Isn't that a lovely ride
Oh mama yes
See me sliding down
And gliding down
Try not to try too hard
It's just a lovely ride

Now the secret of life is enjoying the passage of time

Oh wow, Carole King is singing her song that made him famous, "You've Got a Friend". Cool.

  • I always thought Fire and Rain was the song that made him famous. btw, have you ever heard the in concert album that has Carole King and James Taylor singing "you've got a friend" in duet. Album's not great(King's voice was a bit strained), but their performances together are interesting.

Where is James Taylor these days?

  • CL,

Oddly enough, that F $ R is the one JT closed that show with last night.

Good question, about JT. All of his children were there, but Rufus and Henry, his youngest, were on the stage for one of the finales (doin' How Sweet It Is..). So, I'm guessing he's touring occasionally (he plays at Tanglewood each year) and spending more time with his wife and kids.

Sadly, Carly Simon was not around last night. Because I caught the show half-way through, I don't know if "Mockingbird" was sung or not. I'm guessing not.

Have 't seen heard the concert album you spoke of, but last night's duet gave me an idea of what it may have been like. Her voice was in pretty good shape though, and it was nice when JT joined her.
