    An extremely important point in the discussion is that the uninsured numbers do not reflect the under-insured. People in that situation are one serious illness or accident away from disaster.

    Kudos to Elizabeth Edwards for making the relevant points and completing her thoughts even though the interviewers kept interrupting! (For the life of me I'll never understand why 24 hour news channels want to package everything into 3 minutes bursts. Do they really need to repeat the "headline" they just covered 10 minutes ago - the same headline scrolling repeatedly at the bottom of the screen?)

    I agree that we definitely need an alternative of some sort (government or otherwise) to the private insurance providers. Without real and continuing competitors, they won't change.
