Sarah Palin Doesn't Believe in Freedom To Read

There are many reasons to vote for Obama/Biden. If there are any BW readers who thought about voting a third party (as I did at one time), here's a good reason to vote for the Dem ticket.

From Time:

At some point in those fractious first days, Palin told the department heads they needed her permission to talk to reporters. "She put a gag order on those people, something that you'd expect to find in the big city, not here," says Naegele. "She flew in there like a big-city gal, which she's not. It was a strange time, and [the [ITALIC "Frontiersman"]] came out very harshly against her."

Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving "full support" to the mayor.

Scary thought.

Update: not only did she support banning books, she slashed library building improvements for Ester County Public Library system.

  • I imagine she wanted to ban all the books that discussed the science behind human conception :}

  • Well, more than that, CL. She didn't like books that had objectionable language, which means likely Catcher in the Rye.

  • Okay, I saw the woman speak tonight. Yikes!

    Obama gives an inspiring speech about going the high road in our political debate. The Republicans respond with non-stop personal attacks. I felt like I'd been in a room full of bullies. What kind of Christians are these people?
