I've Been Disney'd

Disney is non-stop entertainment and marketing. And in light of the Obama campaign, it does make one believe in magic for awhile. Being an adult and seeing it for the first time, I'm aware of the marketing aspects and manipulations. But I got to meet Mickey Mouse, have my gosh-awful pose with him, and I told him I was 7 years old that day.

This was my first time to any Disney park. As a child, I longed to go to Disneyland, but my family had insufficient resources to go. My siblings have since been to Disney World with their children. Finally, I got to fulfill my childhood wish.

Space Mountain is the best ride I've ever been on. It's smooth, but adventurous enough. In the words of my DH, "Rock Me Amadeus!". His 12 year old heart inside of his 50 year old body encouraged me to go with him 3X on that ride, with the last one where we were in the front car. We waited 35 minutes the first time, and after that, we learned that the quickest way, if one didn't mind coming back later, was to get a "Fast Pass" which is a reward system for anyone who wishes to come back 4 hours later between certain times within a hour time frame. We did that for most popular rides.

The experience of the Disney Parade is what sealed it for me. I felt my life flashed in front of my eyes when I saw Tinkerbell, followed by Pinocchio, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Goofy, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, the Lion King, with the finale of the last float with Cinderella, Donald Duck, and Mickey & Minnie Mouse. They timed the music of playing all of the famous tunes from the cartoons, the Old "Wonderful World of Disney show" and the movies.

A lot of years in that 20 minute parade, and for me, nearly 49 years.

Elizabeth Edwards at PDF

She beamed in from her home.

But the scrubbs removed it. I hope it wasn't at EE's request.

More of the story here.

She was also on GMA yesterday.

And see the NYT post about the EE show.

The Hippy Dippy Weatherman is Gone

I just got an e-alert from the NYT that George Carlin has crossed the divide. He was 71 years young.

I remember Carlin for his biting and controversial commentary, but most of it was clever play on words. Of course, most remember him for the "7 Words One Can Never Say on Television", which I had forgotten invoked a SCOTUS case.

However I think I will remember him best as Al Sleet, the Hippy Dippy Weatherman.

" The weather was dominated by a large Canadian low, which is not to be confused with a Mexican high. Tonight’s forecast . . . dark, continued mostly dark tonight turning to widely scattered light in the morning.”

Today's forecast is dark.

George Carlin, RIP.
