Reign of An Error Era Ends

Actually, I like Laura Bush and I appreciate what she did for libraries and promoting literacy more effectively than her mother-in-law did. But I have to say to her husband and his ilk, especially Dick Cheney and the neo-cons:

Goodbye and Good riddance.

Olbermann's Special Comment

Keith Olbermann has come a long way from the days of being sportscaster at ESPN. Since 2005, he has been doing a number of special comments, directly directed at the Bush Administration. They are thoughtful, but very deliberate. His show is now highly rated and has surpassed Bill-O's Spin Zone of spew.

Tonight's special comment took me a little by surprise. I knew that he was going to say something about Bush and his act to commute Scooter Libby's sentence. I knew it would not be pretty, but it would be forceful. I had thought it would be something about impeachment. Instead, it was this:

It is nearly July 4^th, Mr. Bush, the commemoration of the moment we Americans decided that rather than live under a King who made up the laws, or erased them, or ignored them—or commuted the sentences of those rightly convicted under them—we would force our independence, and regain our sacred freedoms.

We of this time—and our leaders in Congress, of both parties—must now live up to those standards which echo through our history: Pressure, negotiate, impeach—get you, Mr. Bush, and Mr. Cheney, two men who are now perilous to our Democracy, away from its helm.

For you, Mr. Bush, and for Mr. Cheney, there is a lesser task. You need merely achieve a very low threshold indeed. Display just that iota of patriotism which Richard Nixon showed, on August 9^th, 1974.

Resign.

Bum Steers

I used to read Texas Monthly when I lived in Texas. Great magazine about politics and culture in Texas.

Then I moved, and totally forgot about the Bum Steers issue (annually, January issue) until Mr. Coffee at the DU posted this.

I'm reminded of JRE being on The Daily Show recently and was put into the "Seat of Heat" with this question (paraphrased slightly):

"If you were elected Vice-President in 2004, who would you accidently shoot in the face?"

Edwards' answer: Dick Cheney.


Good answer. Cheney is a bum steer, along with his boss.
