Man or Woman Blogger?

Yesterday, I was lurking at Progressive Blue and in particular, I read Desmoinesdem's diary about Gender Analyzer with great interest. Gender Analyzer is a website that with some algorithms is supposed to tell you the gender of the main blogger of a blog.

I decided to put Benny's World in the box. This was my result:

We think http://bennycat.blogspot.com is written by a man (73%).

If you read other results for as Iddybudjournal and Lefty Lane, GA also says that they are written by men.

I decided to put in Chancelucky's addy and this is the result I got:

We guess http://chancelucky.blogspot.com is written by a woman (59%), however it's quite gender neutral.

Chancelucky should be proud. The blog gets put into the SNL category of "Pat".

Looks like the AI experts at Gender Analyzer have some tweaking to do.

Friday Blog Spotlight: Chancelucky

BW Readers,

I have decided to share some news with you. On Monday I was diagnosed with cubital tunnel syndrome, which means my pinky and ringer finger tingle a lot on my left hand and arm, and they are losing sensation. I've kind of known what my problem was for 2 months, but unfortunately, there aren't many specialists in this area within my HMO, so the appointment queue was long. Next week I start the process getting OT to determine what kind of splint to get, then PT for my shoulder since this form of CTS has crawled into my shoulder. I welcome it as I was hit from behind on Tuesday, and my old whiplash (another story) resurfaced, and my left clavicle is also sore. Thus typing is becoming uncomfortable for me.

Enough about my typing woes and the causes of them. In the spirit of the Edwards family, which tries to make lemonade when given lemons (and believe me, the M$M gives plenty of them), I have been getting permissions to redistribute excellent blog posts, as you saw earlier this week with TomP. However, I am going to try something new: spotlighting blogs on my blogroll. I won't be doing this each week, but I will try my best to get the spotlight up at least twice a month.

Friday's spotlight: Chancelucky

Chancelucky and I have been been linking to one another's blogs for quite some time. He gets the Edwards news over here and occasionally I reveal something about myself, which I think bloggers tend to like when the blogs are solo and nongroup blogs. At CL's (as I refer to him at his site) blog, I get to read some of the best reviews on popular culture topics, as well as some good political/social commentaries.

Last night, CL put up a classic about the fuss-budgets making much ado about nothing related to one of the characters in the Harry Potter series and ties it to the inane things by Re-pugs in the Congress try to get away with. Mind you, I am not into the fantasy genre, and haven't been since Bewitched, which was a humorous show, and I tend to like animals who do great things more than wizards and dark shows such as Charmed. Barnaby Collins in Dark Shadows scared the bejeezus out of me when I watched it in the afternoons during my grade school years.

I encourage you to visit CL's blog post here. It is exquisite satire, just as good as anyone would write in the New Yorker. To whet your appetite, the title of the post is: Albus Dumbledore Tells All (a really odd Karl Rove Adventure).

You don't even have to know much about the characters in the Harry Potter series, and you will smile immediately. I was almost laughing out loud when I finished reading this succinct, delightful post. Why didn't I laugh? Well, I did a little. The smile was bigger though.

Benny's World Linkages: Introducing New Blogs & Familiar Ones

BW readers may note I've added some new sites to my blogroll. Here they are and my comments.

Ezra Klein's blog is a good one. He's pretty fair about questioning any Dem (or Repub) on their ideas or issues. I also like his weekend volunteers there and on TAPPED. I have been getting to know a couple of them now personally via e-mails I send them. I met Ezra in Iowa when Edwards announced his candidacy on December 28th to the MSM. I was impressed how someone of his youth (sorry Ezra, you are like JRE, you are youthful looking, and it's because you are, with idealism, I think, with a mix of pragmatism) has already been on C-SPAN a couple of times and is a rising star as a pundit.

Aldon Hynes is the blog master of Orient Lodge. Hynes' posts appeal to me as Chancelucky's do because he finds 2 x 2 are 4 and 4 x 4 are 16. Hynes looks for patterns of ideas coming together, and finds them on a variety of topics. He also finds good articles to post to Newstrust, something I'm still trying to give better critiques of news articles, as opposed to Digg, which is more on what's popular, and generally more techie. Yes, in case you want to know, Hynes has been a technical consultant on the Dean and Lamont blogs, and he supports Edwards. He gets paid as a professional blogger (and rightfully so, he has a few blogads, and other gigs going, I am surmising) and I say, more power to him as he does a great job, whereas I am still learning so much from what he writes and does.

I hope Hynes reads Chancelucky's blog, as Iddybud does.

In a recent e-mail, I mentioned to Hynes that Chancelucky writes superb reviews in the world of entertainment, and still manages to find the socio-political linkages that I appreciate when I've missed them.

All of these places provide linkages to the patterns. They write from intuition, but are good at providing details to support their posts.
